The Wave Waste Story

Simplifying Waste Management, a dream turned reality.

Every Wave Starts As A Ripple

It all started back in highschool when Sean Hunter and Patrick Riesmeyer had a lightbulb moment and thought they struck gold. “What if we could get paid to take people's trash out?” The two raced around their neighborhood, handing out flyers to every house they passed. Patiently waiting by the phone, it only rang once. Sean and Patrick had just secured their first customer, and her name was Dorothy. The two traded off weeks taking her trash out and back in for the next two years. The thought of trying to expand this business idea had yet to cross their mind.

Fast forward to 2020, Sean and Patrick were freshman year roommates at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. As best friends do, they tossed business ideas back and forth while trying to fall asleep night after night. Sean eventually said, “What if we tried our trash idea again?” Obviously there was some hesitation, but the two believed they could make it work. Spending long nights writing up business plans, they were determined to revamp the previous business venture. What started as a way to earn a few extra dollars for the neighborhood snack shack, opened up the doors to the idea of simplifying and elevating waste management.

Sean and Patrick then decided to bring on a longtime best friend, Michael Smith. He moved out to Wilmington, NC, and the rest has been history. The three secured partnerships with two vacation rental companies before the summer of 2022. Official operations started April 3rd, 2022 in Carolina Beach, NC. The three divided up the route, and conquered it by riding house to house on skateboards. Working at the beach ain’t so bad.

Today, Wave Waste proudly works with seven vacation rental companies, ranging from Topsail, NC to Kure Beach, NC. They have dedicated themselves to providing reliable, convenient, and cost-effective trash services that contribute to a cleaner community. Venturing into junk-removal and apartment-trash services in 2024, Wave Waste is determined to simplify waste management.
